The annual event of Frumentius Lectures 2017 was marked for the 16th time on 28-31 March 2017 at EGST campus. The four days lectures were presented by Professor John S. Mbiti on the topic “Theological Seedlings of Christology in African Christianity” under sub-topics of Oral Christology, Christology of Liberation Theology, Initiation Christology and Is Jesus Christ Hidden in African Religion and Culture?
Prof. Mbiti is a theologian, philosopher, priest and Emeritus professor at the University of Bern, Switzerland. He is one of the fathers of African Theology and Philosophy. The lectures were attended by EGST community and invited guests and were followed by active audience participation and probing questions. Prof. Mbiti, at the end of the lectures expressed his deepest gratitude for EGST community stating, “EGST represented by neither the place nor the building, but by the hospitable people here and I like the spirit of EGST.”
In the past 15 years, EGST had the privilege of having internationally renowned scholars from all over the world such as Prof. Andrew Walls, Dr. Jonathan Bonk, Prof. Kwame Bediako, Dr. John Stott, Dr. Chris Wright, Prof. Richard Bauckham, Dr. Mikre-Selassie Gebre-Amanuael, Prof. Lamin Sanneh, Dr. Elaine Storkey, Drs Anne and Edward Wimberley, Prof. Loren T. Stuckenbruck , Prof. John Walton and Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali, and Prof. Steve Delamarter who have spoken on various issues relevant to the Ethiopian/African Christian and Societal Context.
