EGST Fourth Director Re-appointed for Second Term

The leaders of the Ethiopian Graduate School of Theology (EGST) have re-appointed Rev. Dr. Misgana Mathewos, the fourth Director of the School for the second term on February21, 2020 at a ceremony held at EGST Auditorium.

In his message, Ato Tewodros Beyene, Deputy Chairperson of EGST Board explained the procedures of the reappointment and noted that God created us in purpose and we have to be in a place where God wants us to be.

Rev. Teshome Amenu, a member of EGST Council of Owners preached from Matthew 9:35-38 and challenged the audience to open their eyes and see the real need on the ground. He further noted that the goal of EGST is indeed interesting and that we need to be visionary and servant leaders.

 

Rev. Dr. Misgana Mathewos on his part expressed his gratitude to all who took part in his re-appointment, especially the Board and Council of Owners for their faith in him and his leadership.

He also extended his appreciation to the faculty, staff, and his family. He furthermore outlined a number of reasons to accept the re-appointment, such as passion to see the expansion of EGST, the unique position EGST assumed among the evangelicals as the best post- graduate theological institute, the achievement of previous years, hardworking staff and enduring divine support and encouragement.

In his address to the event, the Director has mentioned some of the achievements of the past four years and indicated his ‘generic future plans’ focusing on strengthening and adding new academic programmes, upgrading the research office to department level, increasing student intake, improving financial stability, developing assets, as well as  defining and strengthening EGST’s prophetic role and social action.

The provision of the term and re-appointment of the EGST Director is indicated in the constitution, article 27 which states that, “The Director shall be eligible for only one re-appointment, subject to his/her performance and agreement to serve for another term.”  The Powers and Duties of EGST Director are outlined on EGST Constitution Article 28

The event was closed with dinner reception and table fellowship at EGST Café

EGST current and former leaders, faculty, staff, students and invited guests attended the ceremony.

Revd. Dr. Misgana assumed this position on 1st January 2016 succeeding Dr. Desta Heliso, the third Director who completed his second tenure on 31 December 2015 and currently faculty member and PhD  Coordinator while the second Director, Rev. Dr Debella Birri resides in USA and the founding Director Dr Peter Cottrell has retired and lives in England.
