Call for Repentance and Stopping COVID 19: National Prayer Month Declared

In a live televised prayer event on April 6, 2020, the Inter-Religious Council of Ethiopia
(IRCE) has launched a month-long prayer progamme in response to curbing COVID 19
pandemic.

Religious leaders from the Ethiopian Orthodox Tawhido Church (EOTC), Supreme
Council of Ethiopian Islamic Affairs, Ethiopian Catholic Church and Ethiopian

Evangelical Believers Council have led the launch event and called up on the public to
actively pray for stopping the pandemic.

They further urged the public to maintain prevention and control measures strictly and
stay at home by limiting movement as announced by the government.

Sahle-Work Zewde, President of Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia attended the
event and has appreciated the roles of faith leaders. She delivered message of support
and called up on the public to fight the deadly virus with discipline.

The daily prayer transmission alternates between and among the TV channels of Fana,
EBC/ etv, Addis TV and Walta from 3:00 pm local/Ethiopian time in the evenings. The
prayer sessions stay from April 6- May 6,20 2020 facilitated by Ethiopian Orthodox
Tawhido Church (EOTC), Supreme Council of Ethiopian Islamic Affairs, Ethiopian
Catholic Church and Ethiopian Evangelical Believers Council, the newly organized
evangelical coalition responsible to coordinate common issues of evangelical churches.

The Inter-Religious Council of Ethiopia (IRCE) is a coalition of major religious bodies in
Ethiopia and coordinates the prayer initiative.
