The 2021/22 Academic calendar of the Ethiopian Graduate School of Theology (EGST) was officially opened on September 20, 2021. It also marks the beginning of the first semester. Students, faculty, staff and guests come together for worship, fellowship, prayer, sharing of the word of God, and partaking of the Holy Communion.
In his welcoming address, EGST Director, Rev. Dr. Misgana Mathewos pointed out that EGST community is gathered around specific values and purpose of “equipping Christ-like women and men to serve the church and society in Ethiopia and beyond”. He furthermore encouraged the audience to “take note of Christ-centeredness in the day-to-day lives and interactions.”
The Director introduced faculty members and staff for the new and current students and officially declared the opening of the semester.
Faculty member Rev. Dr. Peter Myers shared the word of God from Psalms 19, and challenged EGST community to think, “What their goal for this year is?” He explained that the joy, the purpose, and the goal of all creation is to praise God. He summarized that God’s word can transform us, renew us, recreate us and restore us to that joy we were created to experience. He finally encouraged the congregation to “make this the goal for the year ahead: enjoy God by being changed and humbled by his word.”
Head of Finance and Administration at EGST, Mr. Mesfin Tesfaye led the program, and invited the congregation for corporate worship with singer Dereje Mulatu at the end of the session.
EGST alumnus, and member of the MYS church, Rev. Solomon Habte administered the Holy Communion along with Rev. Dr. Misgana Mathewos, EGST Director.
Dean of Students’ Affairs at EGST, Dr. Lidetu Alemu on his part introduced the Student Council members, and explained issues related with scholarships, and financial matters.
